Cambridge retains the top spot in this year's edition of the Guardian's University Guide.

Aimed at young people choosing a course of study at a UK university, the Guardian University Guide uses a range of information to help prospective students choose their course and where to apply. Cambridge is ranked number one in the 2020 edition's main table, as it was the previous year. The guide also breaks down its overall table by academic subject.

The top ten universities in the 2020 edition are:

1. Cambridge
2. St Andrews
3. Oxford
4. Loughborough
5. Durham
6. Bath
7= Imperial College
7= Lancaster
9. Warwick
10. Exeter

The guide is compiled by ranking universities on a number of criteria, including student satisfaction on courses and teaching, the rate of students dropping out and the proportion of graduates in employment or further study after six months. A new continuation measure was introduced last year.
