King's College at sunset

With your CAMCard, you and your guests can enjoy free entry at various Cambridge colleges via the porters’ lodge, when they are open to the public. Please note that access is at the discretion of each College.

Your alumni CAMCard provides access to a range of benefits across Cambridge, including free or discounted entry to many college grounds – often with guests.

On this page, you’ll find everything you need to know about accessing colleges during your visit.

Planning your visit

We recommend planning your visit in advance, especially if you have specific college grounds in mind. It’s worth contacting the college directly to confirm access, particularly during exam term (the final term of the academic year), when restrictions may apply.

You can check current and forthcoming term dates for guidance.

Can I access a college ground if I didn’t study there?

Yes. As long as the college is allowing visitors and is open to the public

How do I access the college grounds?

On arrival, visit the porter’s lodge, let them know you’re a University of Cambridge alumnus/a, and show them your CAMCard.

How many guests can I bring?

Most colleges allow entry for up to three guests. However, access may be limited or restricted due to events, building works, or busy periods during term time. We recommend calling ahead to the Porter's Lodge of any college you plan to visit.

If you’re visiting with a group larger than four, please inform the Porter's Lodge in advance. This helps ensure the safety of your group and college staff in case of an emergency.
