Cambridge Society of York
The Cambridge Society of York was begun in about 1938. Its aim was to help people who studied at the University of Cambridge keep in touch with each other and with the University.
It usually organises about four events for Alumni and guests each year and welcomes new ideas and suggestions for events at any time. Regular events consist of a formal dinner or lunch, often with a speaker from the University, and a summer outing to a local place of interest followed by an informal meal together, possibly in a local pub.
Each of these events helps the Society to do what was originally intended, that is, to promote friendship among local Cambridge alumni and to keep in touch with present-day Cambridge.
There are about 60 members from all walks of life and many good friendships have resulted. They are very keen to let any Cambridge alumni in this area know of their existence and to welcome them at events.
The society are keen to encourage new committee members and welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. Please get in contact if you would like to find out about what is involved.
