Biden, US Foreign Policy, and China-Africa Relations
Biden, US Foreign Policy, and China-Africa Relations
Under former US President Donald Trump, US relations with several African countries appreciably soured and deteriorated, allowing for China to increase its economic and political influence across Africa. The administration of newly elected US President Joseph Biden has a unique geopolitical window to constructively reshape US-Africa relations so as to counter the expanding power of China in the African region. The Centre for Geopolitics will convene a panel bringing together leading experts on African politics and international affairs to explore the significance of the Biden administration's African foreign policy agenda and the effects Biden's agenda will have on existing Chinese influence in Africa.
Panel
Dr Shirley Ze Yu, Visiting Senior Fellow at London School of Economics, and Asia Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University
Dr Lina Benabdallah, Assistant Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University
Dr Barney Walsh, Lecturer in Security, Leadership, and Development Education at the African Leadership Centre, King's College London
Chair: Chris Wadibia, Centre for Geopolitics
