Volunteer at a degree ceremony

Role: Degree ceremony volunteer

We're recruiting volunteers to help run the alumni stand at Cambridge degree ceremonies.

What's involved?

  • Congratulating graduates and handing out gift bags
  • Answering questions from graduates and their guests
  • Setting up and/or packing away the stand

Why volunteer?

  • You'll be one of the first to congratulate our new alumni, thus playing an important role in their special day
  • You'll be based in the grand surrounds of the Senate-House
  • You'll experience this ancient University tradition from a different perspective

Location

  • The Senate-House Yard, central Cambridge

Time involvement

  • Attendance at one or more degree ceremonies per academic year
  • Most shifts are about 4/5 hours long and take place over a morning/afternoon or an afternoon/early evening

Manual handling

  • The role involves lifting, carrying and transporting items and may not be suitable for anyone with a previous or existing musculoskeletal disorder, injury or medical condition, or anyone who is pregnant

Expenses

  • We can reimburse reasonable volunteer expenses, such as for local travel
  • Free refreshments will be provided
