Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore Ltd (CARES Ltd) hosted a very successful visit of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Singapore on Thursday, 21 September, 7.30pm. Prof Markus Kraft, CARES Director and CARES staff were delighted to welcome around twenty society members to the CARES office and Labs located at the Campus for Research and Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). Prof Markus Kraft provided an overview of the motivation for a carbon reduction research programme between Singapore and Cambridge and the work of the programme, then guests were taken on a tour of the labs and saw some brief demonstrations of some of the best outputs of the C4T programme (Carbon Reduction in Chemical Technology) to date. The evening concluded with a lively drinks and networking session.

Ms Joy Haughton, Chief of Staff CARES, said “The evening was a great opportunity to engage with alumni in Singapore and spread the word about CARES and the projects the Centre is currently involved with”.

CARES Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of Cambridge, funded by the National Research Foundation in Singapore (NRF), hosts a number of research collaborations between the University of Cambridge, NTU, NUS and various industrial partners. Its first research programme ‘Cambridge Centre for Carbon Reduction in Chemical Technology’ (C4T) is a partnership between Cambridge and Singapore to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of the integrated petro-chemical plants and electrical network on Singapore’s Jurong Island. It brings together researchers from Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Metallurgy.
