United Kingdom, Scotland, and the World: The Next Five Years
United Kingdom, Scotland, and the World: The Next Five Years
The event will focus both on Scotland’s role within the UK and how the UK will or should evolve over the next five years. The event will revolve around two panels, one specifically on the UK Union and another on key UK partnerships and alliances, bringing together politicians, policymakers and academics, including leading scholars at Cambridge in History, Politics and International Relations.
The UK Union has faced many complex geopolitical challenges throughout its history. The recent past and the present day are no exception. Following the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, the 2016 Brexit referendum and subsequent debates on Northern Irish and Scottish issues, there is now an opportunity for policymakers and academics to consider the future of the UK Union and how it might evolve to better serve the interests of all four nations. Moreover, these conversations must recognise the context in which they take place and the wider European and global geopolitical threats, not least Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
