We are pleased to announce details of our much anticipated annual Summer walk which will take place on Thursday June 20, 2024  -  a 10km  (6 ¼ mile) circular starting at Frensham Great Pond.

Frensham Great Pond, originally created in the 11th century to supply the Bishop of Winchester with fish, lies at the heart of Frensham Common an area of special scientific interest criss-crossed with sandy trails. Majority of the walk is along easy footpaths but there is an optional small climb to the Devil’s Jumps. According to local folklore, the name relates to how the devil would jump between the little hills on Frensham Common much to the annoyance of the Norse God Thor. The latter eventually threw a boulder at the devil sending him flying into the nearby Devil’s Punch Bowl.

Shortly afterwards drop down to the lunch spot – the Bel and Dragon, which is about 5km from the start and halfway round the walk. After lunch, there are no major climbs as the walk continues back along heathland to Frensham Great Pond car park.

Meeting place: the café at Frensham Great Pond car park, Bacon Lane, Churt, near Farnham, Surrey.
