Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of Sheffield for a day of walking and lunch at the three merry lads.

As previous walks there will be two walks:

Longer walk

The longer walk starts at the car park at the upper Redmires Reservoir and then proceeds via Stanage pole along Stanage edge, towards High Neb returning across moorland to the conduit. This walk is 5+ miles in length and will take 2 ½ to 3 hours. It has a total of 200m of ascent.

Those joining the longer walk should meet Andrew Coomer at the Redmires Reservoirs Car Park (map ref: SK256856) at 9.45am so that we can make a prompt start at 10.00am. The car park is approx. 1¾ miles beyond the Three Merry Lads on the right past the reservoir contractors’ site.

Shorter walk

Alternatively choose the flatter shorter walk of about 1½ hours. The walk will be along the Porter valley and back. Those joining the shorter walk should meet at Forge Dam cafe, Fulwood at 10.30am for coffee. The café is down the lane off Brookhouse Hill S10 3TE and can be found behind the children’s play area, below the dam (map ref: SK304850). Currently the walk is self-guided.

Please remember to bring warm and waterproof clothing and a pair of boots or sturdy walking shoes.
