Nottinghamshire - Guided tour of Holme Pierrepont Hall and Gardens
Nottinghamshire - Guided tour of Holme Pierrepont Hall and Gardens
Set in 30 acres of tranquil parkland and gardens beyond the National Water Sports Centre, and less than three miles from Trent Bridge, Holme Pierrepont Hall has been described as ‘Nottingham’s best-kept secret’. Originally built by Sir William Pierrepont in 1500 as a great courtyard house, and subsequently substantially altered and extended, the Hall features an attractive variety of architectural styles from the Tudor period on and has delightful gardens that will be at their summer best at the time of our visit.
Our visit will be led by Robert Brackenbury, who is a mine of information about the Hall’s history and architecture. We will begin at 10.30 with tea or coffee. The visit will begin at 11.00 a.m. with a tour of the adjacent church of St Edmund, which has enjoyed a long association with the Hall and is notable for its many sixteenth- and seventeenth-century monuments of members of the Pierrepont family. We will then move to the Hall itself and will conclude with a finger buffet lunch at 1.00 p.m. Afterwards we will be free to enjoy the gardens, which will be at their summer best.
