On behalf of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, it is our pleasure to invite you to attend the Davidson Symposium to be held on 23 September 2022 at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, in our new building on the West Cambridge Campus.

The Symposium will celebrate the contribution, legacy and vision of the late Professor John Davidson in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and in the context of the modern face of these disciplines.

The symposium will begin with reflections on John’s contributions to research, industry and more generally, by his former students and colleagues. The afternoon session will continue with presentations from current members of the department in the fields of energy, healthcare and sustainability. The afternoon session will focus on illustrating the impact of combining the Department of Chemical Engineering with Biotechnology at Cambridge, which John steered. These presentations will highlight new research activities in the combined department and their potential impact.

Since some of the families of alumni may wish to attend, the talks will be pitched to be accessible to the non-expert and expert, and, as his son Peter will describe, will aim to reflect John’s concern for well-presented material, elegant theory with elegant experiment, and clear analysis!
