The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India invites you to join them for a panel discussion on the split judgment by Justice Shakder and Justice Hari Shankar. A division bench of the Delhi High Court delivered a split verdict in the marital rape case on the validity of Exception 2 to Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

This is the first time that the constitutional validity of the Exception in rape law concerning a man and his adult wife was scrutinized and adjudicated upon. This matter was picked up after 7 years and heard at length over two months. It raises several critical points concerning a woman’s bodily integrity, the state’s role in protecting its people, and at the same time the contemporary lens through which the changing dynamic between men and women needs to be viewed. We believe this judgment affects each one of us.

The panelists for this event are the Former Additional Solicitor General of India, Mr. Aman Lekhi, Senior Advocate Ms. Geeta Luthra, and Mr. Chintan Chandrachud. The panel discussion will be moderated by two of our Executive Committee members, Ms. Vishnupriya Rajgarhia and Mr. Arnav Narain.

We invite you to send any questions you may have for the panel to arnavnarain@gmail.com
