Hereford - Tour of Grendon Court Gardens with guest speaker
Friday 17 September 2021, 11.00am BST
Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of Hereford and Worcester for a tour of Grendon Court Gardens, lunch, and talk by guest speaker Air Vice Marshal Michael Jackson.
Grendon Court is owned by Mark (Trinity 1976) and Kate Edwards. It has a contemporary garden designed by Tom Stuart-Smith. The garden is planted on 2 levels - a delightful collection of mass planted perennials and grasses of different heights, textures and colour to give all year-round interest. The upper walled garden with a sea of flowery grasses is a highlight, with views of the pond and valley walk. Those who enjoyed our summer visit in 2018 will be able to see how the garden has changed by early autumn.
Kate Edwards will give a brief explanation and will walk around the garden with us answering any questions.
You should bring wellies/boots if you want to stroll down the valley later.
The garden is accessible for disabled people.
Our speaker, Air Vice Marshal Michael Jackson, is an Alumnus of Wolfson College, Cambridge. After successive roles in the RAF as a navigator and commander in several countries he became Defence & Air Attaché in Warsaw during the Cold War, subsequently being appointed Director of the Joint Air Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre and then Director-General, Defence Intelligence Staff. After leaving the RAF he became Executive Director for two U.S. Corporations responsible for business in the defence & intelligence sectors. He has been a governor of the Duke of York’s Royal Military School and directed the renovation and conservation of the ancient Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds. Michael is married to Kay and they have 2 adult married sons.
