Harrogate - Visit to Allerton Waste Recovery Park
Harrogate - Visit to Allerton Waste Recovery Park
Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of North and West Yorkshire for a visit to AWRP, followed by lunch at the Blue Bell.
Programme
- 10:00 am - Guided tour of Allerton Waste Recovery Park
The guided tour of AWRP will take around two hours and involves a session in the visitor centre plus a short site tour. This involves a walk which is about 1km in total for the return trip. There is a set of 30 metal steps to climb, although there is a lift for those unable to climb them. They are only able to take one person per tour who would not be able to use the lifts in the event of a site evacuation. It is essential to arrive with suitable footwear and clothing for an industrial site visit. This includes having thick-soled shoes with no open toes and feet fully covered (no bare skin on the feet) – no high heels. Legs must also be covered, preferably by trousers, but leggings or similar are acceptable. Anyone unsuitably dressed will not be allowed on the site tour.
- 12:00 pm - Lunch at Blue Bell at Arkendale
- 1:15 pm - Guided tour of Allerton Castle
Allerton Castle a Grade 1 Victorian Gothic house, here we will learn about the history of the Allerton estate and then take a guided tour of the main floor rooms, followed by tea/coffee and cake. If time and weather permit, we can then enjoy a walk in the garden before departure. (Please note: thin-heeled shoes are not allowed in the house).
