Geneva - Jura Flower walk & Picnic
Saturday 8 May 2021, 10.30am CEST
Alumni and guests are invited to join the Oxford and Cambridge Club of Geneva and Isobel Shaw on a flower walk in the Jura followed by a picnic. The walk is in Switzerland behind the Dole through summer pastures filled with wild daffodils and orchids, gentians and buttercups and other spring flowers.
The walk will last about two hours along a jeep track and across the fields. Suitable walking boots/shoes are essential and a walking stick is recommended as the ground may be rough in places. We will walk very slowly to look at and photograph the flowers, so we will only walk a couple of kilometres. Those who would like to sit down and rest may do so as the group will remain within view across the fields and there is no chance of getting lost. Isobel knows the area well and will choose a suitable trail and picnic spot according to the conditions and to the wishes of those who come. You can even split into two groups if necessary.
Please meet Isobel at 10.30 at the Office du Tourism in St Cergue.
If you wish to come by train: Depart Nyon at 9.22, arrive St Cergue at 9.58, or depart Nyon 9.52 arrive St Cergue at 10.28. It is a five minute walk from St Cergue railway station to St Cergue Tourist Office. We will drive for 20 minutes from St Cergue to the beginning of the walk-in France, about 5 km from La Cure on the road to the Col de la Faucille. French residents who prefer to come over the Col de la Faucille, can join us at the beginning of the walk-in France. I can send directions.
