Edinburgh - Visit to Royal Merchants’ Company
Edinburgh - Visit to Royal Merchants’ Company
The Cambridge Society of Edinburgh have arranged a visit to the Royal Merchants’ Company, who are delighted to show the building and treasures to Cambridge Society members, including opening up their magnificent vaults. Members will be met by the Master, Mr Don Young, and then given a short tour of the building.
With a history stretching back to 1260, the Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh sits in a magnificent former bank building in Hanover Street. Before it found a permanent home, the Company met in various coffee houses in the City until they found premises in the Cowgate in the late 1600s, then Hunter Square in the late 1700s and finally the current Merchants’ Hall in the 1870s.
Refreshments will be served at 5:30pm in the Merchants' Hall, after the visit members are invited to for dinner at the New Club. As there is limited number of places, please let the group know if you would like to reserver a space.
