The Cambridge Society of Edinburgh welcomes alumni to join them at their annual dinner with guest speaker Kate Forbes MSP.

Kate Forbes MSP, the Secretary for Finance and the Economy since 2020 and the MSP for Skye, Lochaber, and Badenoch since 2016. After reading History at Selwyn College, she studied for a Masters in Diaspora and Migration History at the University of Edinburgh. Before entering the parliament, she worked as an accountant with Barclays. As a backbencher she was the first female MSP to deliver a plenary speech entirely in Gaelic in the post 1999 Scottish Parliament. As well as being responsible for the Scottish budget, fiscal and taxation policy, she has led work on the four day week, human trafficking, crofting, and Gaelic. She also spearheaded the national campaign to ban plastic straws in addition to some other single use plastics in Scotland. In March of this year, she announced a 10 year economic plan to address lower start-up rates and productivity compared to the OECD averages, while seeking to make Scotland greener, wealthier but also fairer.
