Our universities have not only spawned many Nobel Prize winners, they also have one long tradition as recruiting for spies. Just recently, former MI6 employee Christopher Steele (Girton College 1986) with his erroneous dossier on the Russian contacts of President Trump in the headlines. During the Second World War, several students from Oxford and Cambridge played an important role Role in the decryption of German secret codes.

However, the most famous Oxbridge spies to date are the Cambridge 5, former Trinity and Trinity Hall students, who from 1934 to 1954 shared British and American state secrets betrayed to Moscow.
