Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of Dorset for an online talk by John Yerbury - The Gurkha Regiment and Life in Nepal

John spent two years at RMA Sandhurst before being commissioned into the Royal Engineers with a place to read Mechanical Sciences at Cambridge. As part of his varied military career, he was sent to Nepal to serve with the Brigade of Gurkhas, which largely informs the detail of his talk, which will cover the geography, geology and the history of Nepal, including an explanation of why the British presence developed there. He will describe his own task and what life was like in this period between 1989-90, both within and outside the Cantonment where he lived, and later his move to Kathmandu and the experience of trekking in the dramatic Annapurna range.
