Bradford - Walking tour of Little Germany
Bradford - Walking tour of Little Germany
Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of North and West Yorkshire for a guided tour walking of Little Germany, Bradford led by Nigel Grizzard, a local historian.
Little Germany is where many German merchants established their businesses during the second half of the 19th century. Many were Jewish but some were Protestants, amongst which were the Delius family from Westphalia, whose son, Friederich, became a famous 'English' composer. It was commented, “the German immigrants’ influence was out of all proportion to their numbers as reflected in the architecture of parts of central Bradford and the rich cultural heritage they bestowed on the city.” We will learn more on this walk, which will be tailored to the needs of the group and will end with the opportunity to have refreshments.
