Into the Northwest Passage

Into the Northwest Passage

Join Dr Owen Weller [University of Cambridge] and Professor Marc St-Onge [Geological Survey of Canada and University of Oxford] as they introduce the Canadian and Greenlandic High Arctic, where they will be accompanying an alumni tour later next year.

The Arctic is home to not only spectacular wildlife, vibrant cultures and breathtaking landscapes, but it also preserves a stunning geological archive that bears witness to the evolution of our planet over the past 4 billion years. Owen and Marc have both spent multiple field seasons conducting research in the High Arctic, and they will give an overview of the geography and geology of the region, and highlight how this complex history can be appreciated while navigating the Northwest Passage.  Owen will provide an introduction to the concept of deep geological time and Marc will detail how the Canadian Government is partnering with Inuit communities in designing and conducting research in this unique part of the world. He will also showcase some of the fauna, flora, history and archaeology that can be seen when transiting the passage.
