Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of Sheffield for a guided visit to Renishaw Hall and Gardens. Situated just ten miles South East of Sheffield City Centre, Renishaw Hall and Gardens have been owned by the Sitwell family since 1625. It is still a very much-loved family home, but has a long and interesting history. As typical of many country houses it grew in the 17th century, had later Georgian additions, and some uncertain years in the 1900’s when many country estates were being sold, but Renishaw was saved by Sir Reresby (7th Bt) and Lady Sitwell in 1965. It is now the home of their daughter Alexandra Hayward and her family.

The Stables Courtyard is home to the Café and Rex Whistler function room at Renishaw, along with a Farm Shop selling local produce and small selection of retail shops. There is a Museum within the Stables, exhibiting memorabilia and history from the family, which includes a 20-minute video on the Sitwells.

The programme will be:

• 10:45 : Collect together at the car park
• 11:00: Exclusive guided tour of the Hall of about an hour
• 12:30: Café lunch together in the function room 1400: Guided tour of the gardens by the Head Gardener P

People may arrive from 9am (the Hall will have a list of names), and may visit the vineyard, museum or the more general grounds whenever they wish during the day, but must leave the site by 5pm.
