Professor Ian Shipsey

Professor Ian Shipsey is Henry Moseley Centenary Professor of Experimental Physics and Fellow of St Catherine’s College, Oxford.

He is an experimental particle physicist working in large international scientific collaborations seeking to understand how the universe was born how it will evolve and how it will end using particle accelerators and telescopes.  Ian studies quarks and the Higgs Boson, search for dark matter, the study of dark energy.

He is Chairperson of the Collaboration Board of the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment (CMS) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Switzerland, a member of the Board of Directors of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope Corporation, and formerly the co-coordinator of the LHC Physics Center at Fermi National accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), and co-Spokesperson of the CLEO experiment at Cornell University.

He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Chair-elect of the APS Division of Particles and Fields (DPF).
