Gijs's books include Gaudí, In the Kitchens of Castile and Guernica: the Biography of a Twentieth-Century Icon.

He has published widely in the Burlington Magazine and The Wall Street Journal, appeared on BBC Radio 4, the Discovery Channel and TV España.

He read languages at Utrecht University and Art History at the Courtauld Institute.
