Fitzwilliam Museum

Look Think Do is a brand-new set of activities designed as a starting point for looking, talking and doing together while the Fitzwilliam museum is closed. They have been created with families learning together and teachers planning remote learning in mind. New entries are added on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout May 2020, with extra activities and virtual stories for families with under fives on the first Saturday of the month. Read more

Museum of Zoology

The Museum of Zoology’s Online Learning Resources page is full of activities and collection links designed to complement science teaching in the classroom. Created in consultation with school teachers and university researchers, it provides real-life case studies and adaptable materials to help bring topics to life. Read more

Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences

To replace their programme of family activities, the museum has published a number of arts/craft activities that children can do at home including worksheets, crafts and colouring. Read more

An interactive UK Virtual Microscope, which is intended as a teaching resource, tells the story of the common rock types in the UK and how they form. Read more

New online exhibition: We need more teeth

An exciting new collection of dinosaur casts was donated to the Sedgwick Museum in 2017. Among them, those of a prehistoric icon: Tyrannosaurus rex.

Eye surgeon Dr. Andrew Hempel bequeathed his large collection of dinosaur skull and bone replicas to the museum in the summer of 2017. Read more

Online exhibition: Dawn of the Wonderchicken

The Wonderchicken was discovered and named by Dr Daniel Field, Juan Benito, and Albert Chen from the Department of Earth Sciences, along with their collaborators Dr John Jagt and Dr Daniel Ksepka. They have published this work in the March 2020 issue of the prestigious journal Nature. Read more

The Polar Museum

The Polar Museum offers a range of learning resources for homeschooling, including great cross-curriculum ideas to get children away from a computer screen. Designed for primary school children, but adaptable for other age groups. Read more

Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Garden has developed a number of family activities that can be done at home. Read more

Science on Sundays is a programme of free, informal, monthly, plant science talks, bringing the latest discoveries in plant science to the public in a 30-minute nutshell. Read more

Kettles Yard has a number of online learning resources, which include a variety of activity guides aimed at kids for teachers, parents and educators, and a virtual tour of Kettles Yard. Read more

Millennium Maths Project

The Millennium Maths Project is a mathematics education initiative for children and young people aged 3-19, and the wider public. NRICH resources are free and available online for ages 3-19. The activities are designed to encourage discussion and discovery and to build students' mathematical reasoning, resilience and flexibility, ability to apply knowledge creatively in unfamiliar contexts and confidence in tackling new challenges. Each resource is accompanied by extensive teacher support and guidance; mapping resources to the curriculum helps teachers to embed problem-solving approaches in the classroom. Read more
