Join Cambridge Society of Surrey for their Spring meet up for a fascinating talk on 'The Great Stink' by Sir Peter Bazalgette, followed by a Q&A and buffet lunch at the Windlesham Golf Club.

Sir Peter Bazalgette is a very well-known TV producer and executive (Big Brother, Ready Steady Cook, Changing Rooms etc.). Born in 1953, he was educated at Dulwich College and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge (1971 law) and was President of the Cambridge Union Society. He has also served as Chairman of the Royal Television Society and the Arts Council England, and was Chairman of ITV from 2016 until 2022, stepping down last September after six years. Peter is also the great great grandson of Sir Joseph Bazalgette, the chief engineer of London's Metropolitan Board of Works, whose major achievement was the creation (in response to the Great Stink of 1858) of a sewer network for central London which was instrumental in relieving the city from cholera epidemics, while beginning to clean the River Thames, a process which continues more than 160 years later.
