Alumni and guests

Join us for a casual after work drinks get-together in King’s Cross…

Shaleem Jacob (Downing, 2012), one of our committee members, and Society member Jong-Woo Lim (St Edmund’s, 2018), will be hosting fellow Society members and guests from 6:30pm on Thursday 14th May near Kings Cross Station. Full details for the evening will be sent a couple of days before the event to those who book tickets. We have a small area reserved for us inside. Please note that while there is some reserved seating, most of the area will be standing space.

This event is an informal opportunity for alumni to catch up with each other, socialise, and network in a relaxed environment. Whether you’re looking to make new connections or simply catch up with old friends, we hope this will be the perfect event for you.

Booking is required, but don’t worry, the tickets are free – we just need to know how many people are likely to turn up so that we can ensure there is enough space for everyone – and there will be a cash bar as you would expect. If you book a space and can no longer attend, please cancel your booking so that others have a chance to attend, thank you.

About your hosts

Shaleem (Downing, 2012) completed his PhD in 2017 in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge. During his time at Downing College, he was actively involved in sports, rowing for his college and playing university basketball. Shaleem now works in biotechnology, focusing on vaccine and viral vector purification technologies. He is the co-founder of VectorisBio, a company developing purification platforms for gene therapies and vaccines. Having served as a committee member of the Society for nearly eight years, he looks forward to welcoming everyone and hearing what fellow members have been up to.

Jong-Woo (St Edmund’s, 2018) read MPhil in Education, Globalisation and International Development. Shortly after Cambridge, he worked at UN Geneva, Switzerland as labour market analyst for employment policies during COVID-19 in Africa and South America for two years. He later moved London to work at EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) as economist covering Ukraine. His main focus lies at post-war reconstruction and peacebuilding in Ukraine. He is from Seoul, Korea and loves to read and paint for his pastime.

So come along, grab a drink and unwind after a long day at work. We can’t wait to see you there!
