London - Highlights Tour of the British Museum
London - Highlights Tour of the British Museum
Take a tour through the history of Britain and the world at the British Museum. We are lucky enough to have one of the best museums in the world in our midst but, let’s be honest, when did you last visit it? Our tour will cover some of the “must see” highlights of the British Museum such as the Rosetta Stone, the key to unlocking hieroglyphs, and the Parthenon Sculptures (also known as the Elgin Marbles), considered some of the most beautiful achievements of Greek art. We will need to be flexible with gallery closures, as we are visiting using the Friday Lates scheme, but I would also hope to include some of the treasures of ancient Mesopotamia, a natural mummy, and some of the highlights from the British collection, such as the finds from the Anglo-Saxon burial at Sutton Hoo, recently dramatized in the film “The Dig”.
Meet: at 17:45 for an 18:00 start (please be on time as we will have a group booking to enter. If you are late you will need to enter as an individual and will not have a booked ticket)
Meeting Place: Outside the back / groups entrance to the British Museum, Montague Place, London, WC1E 7JW
End: approx: 20:00 at the British Museum
Post-tour drinks: Caroline will not be booking a table for post-tour drinks, but there are plenty of options near the end of the tour which she can recommend
