Inspector Morse - A Literary Companion

Inspector Morse - A Literary Companion

Inspector Morse

Author: Paul Taylor

Publisher: Irregular Special Press

"A magisterial, beautifully presented, splendidly researched companion to the life of the late Chief Inspector" Colin Dexter. A very detailed (and illustrated) encyclopaedia which seeks to record every 'fact' contained in the books by Colin Dexter. Alphabetically arranged (from AA to Zeta III) with large entries on Morse, Lewis, Strange, and Oxford but without revealing the solutions to the many crimes investigated.  Discoveries include Lewis's real first name, a sample of Morse's handwriting, the true dates of the cases, and an exact timetable of the events leading up to death of the Inspector.  Most deliberately, the fictional TV series is ignored (though one will discover under the entry for Desert Island Discs that John Thaw was that programme's 2000th guest).  The body of the work is followed by a number of appendices containing crosswords dedicated to Morse;lists of all the people, organisations, and brand names; a complete gazetteer of all places mentioned (and map); every public house; explanatory notes on many of the quotations discovered in the text; and an extensive bibliography.  This is an essential volume for anyone interested in Morse, in crime, in Oxford (and Cambridge), and in the celebration of Dexter's skill in recording the cases.
