We will meet for lunch at 12.30pm, at Garrison Bistro and Cafe in Bowness on Solway, CA7 5AF. A range of home-made freshly sourced cooked meals with hot and cold Beverages is available with vegetarian options. Everyone will pay for their own refreshments.

After lunch there are a number of optional walks to suit a range of abilities and enthusiasms based on Campfield Marsh RSPB reserve on the shores of the Solway Firth.  The reserve is 2.7 miles by road from Bowness-on-Solway so walking is an option, but it is also possible to drive to the reserve, although you will be asked to pay £3 for parking.

It is difficult to predict what wildlife will be present, but the RSPB has advised that from autumn through to winter they do see larger flocks of waders and geese as birds leave their breeding grounds and congregate to feed. Sometimes there are a few thousand barnacle geese on the estuary which can be quite impressive.

There are 2 marked trails at Campfield Marsh. The Blue Trail is 1.5 miles long, taking around an hour to complete. The route takes you to three hides overlooking the wet grassland and marsh. The Red Trail is 2.5 miles long, taking about two hours. The route takes you on the Blue Trail but additionally extends to the boardwalk across the impressive peat bog that is one of the special habitats of Campfield Marsh.
