Tom Pick MBE

In April 2023 Tim Pick completed a 10-month appointment as the UK’s first Offshore Wind Champion and co-chair (alongside the UK Minister for Energy Security & Net Zero) of the Offshore Wind Acceleration Taskforce, culminating in the publication of his report on the sector entitled “Seizing our Opportunities”. He currently serves as Chair and Non-Executive Director of the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership, as well as on a number of other boards and advisory boards. Mr Pick was awarded an MBE in the 2024 King’s New Year Honours for services to offshore wind energy.
Mr Pick previously spent over 27 years as an international energy project development and finance lawyer advising on some of the most complex oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals and power generation projects globally. This included 18 years as a partner in major global law firms, undertaking a number of senior management roles alongside client work. Mr Pick’s final role in law firms before leaving to seek new challenges in April 2022 was as head of Freshfields’ global Energy, Resources and Infrastructure group. Mr Pick spent more than 10 years of his legal career living and working in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and is a regular visitor to the Emirate.
Separately, Mr Pick is part of a small Angel investment syndicate with interests in Energy Transition, Healthcare, Tech and Social Mobility. In the Energy Transition space, investments include a small stake in XLinks, a high-profile business seeking to develop solar and wind power generation assets in Morocco, connected to the UK grid via subsea HVDC cables; and a small stake in XLCC, a related business which seeks to develop a domestic UK HVDC cable manufacturing and subsea cable laying capability.
Mr Pick was born and raised in Driffield, East Yorkshire and attended Driffield Comprehensive School. He graduated with a BA in Law in 1994 from Pembroke College, and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, York.
