Cambridge subjects excel in 2026 rankings
Cambridge tops rankings in 9 subjects in the Guardian’s University Guide and 14 in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.
Cambridge has risen to third position in the Times Higher Education's World University Rankings this year, scoring particularly highly for research environment and research quality. Elsewhere, in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026, Cambridge had 14 subjects ranked the best in the UK.
The 14 subjects Cambridge leads in are:
- Biological Sciences
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Geology
- German
- Italian
- Land and Property Management
- Law
- Linguistics
- Materials Technology
- Music
- Natural Sciences
- Russian
- Sociology
Cambridge has the highest number of subjects to rank top out of all universities and also remains the leading university for completion rates (98.4%).
Cambridge's score in the Guardian University Guide 2026 has risen to 94.7%, ranking third overall.
The Guide has named nine subjects at Cambridge top of the rankings:
- Anthropology and Archaeology
- Biology
- Chemical Engineering
- Classics and Ancient History
- Earth Sciences
- Education
- Engineering
- Psychology
- Veterinary Science
A further seven subjects have come second:
- Computer Science
- Land Economy
- Economics
- Law
- Physics
- Politics
- Sociology and social policy
Finally, six subjects came third:
- Geography
- History
- History of Art
- Languages and Linguistics
- Mathematics
- Theology and Religious Studies
The percentage of students continuing after their first year is the highest in the UK at 98.4%. Student satisfaction rates are an impressive 93.4% .
