The idea of the Sidney Club of Geneva was born at an informal dinner in Cambridge in August 2001. A small group of Sidney Fellows, who felt it would be useful to extend the reach of Sidney across the Channel to the Continent, founded the Club in October 2002 with the organisation of its Foundation Dinner.

The Club’s membership is open to all alumni of Sidney Sussex College resident in continental Europe, and at present comprises about 35 former Fellows/students of the College; it has country representatives in France, Germany and the UK. It seeks to strike a good balance between social and educational/intellectual activities. Meetings and events have been organized not only in Geneva but also in the countries of its members; the group has made a number of trips to Cambridge.

The Club collaborates with the Cambridge Societies of Germany, Paris and greater Zurich. The aim is to interact not only with the Sidney Sussex Society in Cambridge but also with Sidney alumni in other countries on the Continent. Members also participate in events organized by The Oxford and Cambridge Dining Club of Geneva (OCDCG) and the Sidney Sussex Society.
