This exhibition situates monumental sculptures and small-scale pieces, made by Stephen Cox RA, throughout the courts and gardens of Trinity Hall. Cox blends a deep knowledge of the stones from Italy, Egypt, and India, as well as the beliefs, myths, and customs they historically manifest, with his own aesthetic as a contemporary sculptor.

This tour will be repeated at 3pm and 4pm. Alternatively, you can visit the exhibition on a self-guided tour on Sunday 25 September

Artist

Stephen Cox

Stephen Cox emerged as a leading figure in British sculpture in the early 1970s. He was included in Biennales of international art worldwide; his most significant collective exhibitions were at MOMA New York, and the National Gallery, London.

Stephen has been drawn to stones that have been set apart due to their rarity, hardness, colour and symbolism; seeking them out wherever they may be. He worked stone in age-old methods in Mahabalipuram, India and took expeditions to the Eastern Mountains of Egypt. He became the first person to make sculpture in Imperial porphyry from its unique source since antiquity.
