Housing Samuel Pepys’s original diaries, it is one of the most significant collections of books, manuscripts, documents and prints acquired by any private individual, preserved in the original oak bookcases designed by Pepys in 1666. Speakers Dr Jane Hughes Dr Jane Hughes is a Fellow of Magdalene College, where she is Director of Studies in English and is also the Pepys Librarian, responsible for the college's two historic libraries. Dr Hughes’ work focuses on satire, comedy and literary theory, and she is currently writing a book on literary style.
