Saturday 27 May 2023, 10.30am to 2.30pm BST
The Museum is based at the Ryhope Pumping Station, which was built in 1868. The station ceased operation in 1967, after 100 years of continuous use. Ryhope Pumping Station has been a local icon ever since its construction. The Station and Site supplied water to Sunderland and its environs, after its decommissioning, the building and the surrounding site brings the community together through local history. Ryhope Pumping Station is situated to the south of Sunderland. There is ample free parking on site. There is no upfront cost for the day. The volunteers will kindly give us a tour without a charge. We will meet at 10.30am in the site's tea room.
After our visit, at 12.45pm a lunch of soup, bread and cheese will be available at The Albion Restaurant and Bar which is located adjacent to Ryhope Village Green (SR2 0NH). The cost is likely to be no more than £10 per head. This is a few minutes drive from the Engines Museum. Street parking is available around the village green. Following this, depending on the weather there may be an optional out-and-back walk along Durham’s Heritage Coastal Path towards Seaham.
