Sicilian Gastronomy from Mycenaean contact to the Arabic conquest
Sicilian Gastronomy from Mycenaean contact to the Arabic conquest
Sicily is as renowned for the depth and variety of its cuisine as it is for the tangled mess of its history, with one external Mediterranean power after another claiming dominance over the island and attempting to remake its culture into that of its new possessor.
In this talk join Michael Metcalfe as he teases out some of the elements that each succeeding Mediterranean power brought to Sicilian food-culture from 1500 BC to 1000 AD to show how they have combined to create Sicilian gastronomy as we know it today.
