In-person This event is hosted by: Oxford and Cambridge Alumni Society, Czech Republic Described as a "Coronation event without the King in the middle of nowhere" this year the weekend will be spent in beautiful Třešť Castle in the town of that same name, nestled in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic, South East of Prague.Whilst precise details remain to be confirmed, there will be a Strawberries and cream 'Coronation' reception in the castle park on Saturday afternoon, with a dinner in the Gothic dinings hall of the castle, and thereafter a fascinating talk by our OCAS member Gerhard Symons entitled "Kafka, Lermontov and Orwell". Gerhard is the editor of an groundbreaking abridged recording of Animal Farm specially designed for use by Intermediate English-Language Students (B1/B2), narrated by Gerhard himself and we look forward to this talk immensely, particularly since Kafka himself spent summers in Třešť between 1900 and 1907..Sunday will see a walk to the nearby Lake District and also possibly to the Peak District of Velký Špičák, followed by a lunch and afternoon departure back to Prague. As always, Radek Pelc is kindly assuming the role of organiser for this event, and further details (and signup forms) will come out soon. In the meantime, as I say, please save the date!Weekend Activities Update:Saturday, 6th May 2023 18:30: Coronation strawberries & cream in castle park (50 m) Plan B location in case of rain: Corner Lounge on 1st floor20:00: Coronation DINNER in the Gothic (“pillar”) Dining Hall22:00: Coronation TALK in Franz Kafka’s Lounge: Kafka, Lermontov & Orwell by Gerhard Symons, the author of rephrased Animal Farm (Three Thrushes 2021) wwwSunday, 7th May 202311:00: Post-coronation walk to the Lake District (~2 km) and possibly also the Peak District (~5 km).Register for dinner Register via the following Google Form (editable): https://forms.gle/CUNsWhBUfVguGQdKA (please cut & paste into your browser if not opening)Please book accommodation by e-mail: recepce@zamek-trest.cz (mention codeword OXFORD to qualify for “academic” price)DEADLINE Sunday 30 Apr 2023 (see below for no-show & cancellation policy)Questions about the programme?Contact the organizer (radek.pelc@seh.oxon.org, phone 220.183.272) IF URGENT contact Zbyšek Zawada (777.09.99.37) VenueDr. Richtra 234, 58901 Třešť (http://www.zamek-trest.cz/en)E-mail: recepce@zamek-trest.cz Phone: 567.211.800 (reception)Nearest bus stop: “Třešť, náměstí” (0.5 km)Nearest train stop: “Třešť-město” (1.0 km)DINNER (non-vegetarian three-course set menu, drinks mostly not included) Czk485 – 30%=Czk340 / per adultMeals for vegetarians and children may be ordered à-la-carte: https://www.zamek-trest.cz/en/GastronomySuggested dress code: Smart ‘Château’ Casual (SCC)Missed the registration dealine (Sunday, 30 Apr 2023)?You are still welcome although you may have to factor in the following:- More expensive dinner (à-la-carte only, at commercial rather than academic rate)- No on-site accommodationNo-shows and CancellationsNo-shows are running the risk of being charged for dinner and/or accommodation unless theycancel their booking no later than Sunday 30 April 2023.ACCOMMODATIONSingle room (IN SHORT SUPPLY) Czk1,200 @ AnnexCzk1,690 @ CastleDouble room Czk1,400 @ AnnexCzk1,890 @ CastleFamilyroomCzk2,000@CastlePet (allowed @ annex only) Czk350 N.B.: Prices shown online (https://www.zamek-trest.cz/en/Accommodation-Stay-Packages) represent a commercial (“non-academic”) rate, and do NOT apply to the present event.
