Poundbury is an experimental urban extension on the western outskirts of Dorchester. The development, which started in 1993, has been led by the Duchy of Cornwall, and had the keen endorsement of King Charles III when he was Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall. Under the direction of its lead architect and planner Léon Krier, its design is based on traditional architecture and New Urbanist philosophy.

At the Duchess of Cornwall Inn, we will be hosting a panel discussion ‘About Poundbury’ followed by a lovely lunch and then an optional walking tour of Poundbury.

Panel members are:

• Fran Leaper – Fran is the editor of the Poundbury magazine and loves living in Poundbury and the interesting, vibrant lifestyle it offers.
• Simon Conibear – used to work for the Duchy of Cornwall as the development manager, managing the evolution of Poundbury; negotiating land disposals and running the development office, from the early years of Poundbury, for over 20 years.
• Kim Slowe - A former Royal Navy frigate captain and helicopter pilot, Kim Slowe has successfully set up, operated, and sold Dorset based businesses for the past 17 years, including ZeroC residential property builder, responsible for building a large proportion of the housing stock in Poundbury. Kim also built his own house in Poundbury and enjoys the life he gets to lead as a member of the Poundbury community.

You are invited to join us for morning coffee at 11.15am.  The panel session will start at 11.45am until 12.45pm.  Lunch will be served around 1pm.

Drinks for lunch can be purchased from the bar. After lunch you are welcome to join the ‘walking tour’ of the centre of Poundbury, with our walking tour guide, Simon.
