Northumbria: Visit to Ad Gefrin
Northumbria: Visit to Ad Gefrin
Excavated by Cambridge archaeologist Brian Hope-Taylor between 1953 and 1962, Gefrin (Yeavering) is one of the most important archarological sites in England. Bede tells us that it is where Bishop Paulinus baptised early Christian converts in the River Glen. Many of its archaeological finds are displayed in The Great Hall, which recreates the royal palace of Gefrin and displays a unique collection of objects which highlight the intricate craftsmanship and creativity of 7th century Northumberland. An on-site distillery combines heritage and tradition with the contemporary, using traditional whisky producing methods supported by the latest technology.
We have booked the Distillery Tour and Tasting at 11AM, with free access throughout the day to the Museum.
Fourteen places are booked on the 11AM tour. These will be available for the first fourteen bookings. The next available tour after that is at 13:45.
We have also provisionally booked a table in the Bistro for 12:45. We will circulate the menu two to three weeks in advance of the visit so that members wishing to eat may indicate their preferred choices.
There will be an opportunity to visit Ford Village or go for a walk in the area during the afternoon.
