Matthew spent four decades at the sharp end of Australian diplomacy. He served as Australia's Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and Ambassador to the Netherlands, with responsibility for Australia's engagement at the ICJ, the ICC, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
Before The Hague: the UN Security Council during Rwanda and Somalia, High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador to Zimbabwe. He is now Honorary Professor of International Law at ANU and a Senior Fellow at ASPI. He is a Cambridge graduate, and he has shaped this talk for the world as it stands right now.
