The Cambridge Society of Hereford and Worcester invites you to a film viewing. Following the popularity of Alan Bennett and Nicholas Hytner's recent film, ‘The Choral’, this is an invitation to explore Christophe Barratie's 2005 perspective on the transformative power of music and choral singing. Set in 1949, Matthieu, an unemployed and troubled musician and composer (Gerard Jugnot) takes a job at a French rural reform school, where the headmaster (Francois Berleand) rules with an iron fist. Mathieu eschews his boss's methods and attempts to reach the hearts and minds of the boys by forming a choir. Needless to say, it does not all go ‘comme sur des roulettes’… (There will be English subtitles!) This is followed by a tapas lunch at the nearby ‘Bar Limon’, where there will be the chance to meet and discuss the film together.
