Hereford & Worcester - Evening talk by Quentin Lett & buffet supper
Come along and enjoy a light buffet dinner and evening talk by Quentin Lett - "The Theare of Parliamnet". Our event will be held at the Zimmerman Buidling, Hereford Cathedral School.
Quentin, the well-known Parliamentary Sketch Writer and Theatre Critic, has written the following about himself on his Blog: “the fifth child (hence Christian name) of a West Country schoolmaster, educated partly in Herefordshire, lived for a while in Kentucky, New York city and Dublin (TCD), did a postgraduate year at Jesus College, Cambridge. Caught last of Fleet Street mid 1980s on Daily Telegraph and edited its 'Peterborough' diary column for five years before going to US for Times. First sketched parliament for Telegraph at end of Thatcher era. Did 18 years on Daily Mail and started theatre reviewing 2004. Rejoined Times/Sunday Times 2019 but who knows what will happen to me before late 2023?
Various books, including one novel (about the CofE and the Prayer Book). Interests include driving my late father's 1930 Morris.”
Quentin has also been a regular guest on BBC programmes, such as Have I Got News For You and This Week. He presents a programme on BBC Radio Four called What's the Point Of …?, in which he questions the purpose of various British institutions.
Among Quentin’s books are 50 People Who Buggered Up Britain and Bog-Standard Britain, the former described as "an angry book, beautifully written". His 2015 novel The Speaker's Wife, about Parliament and the Church of England, was described as “… absolutely dreadful from start to finish. And there is nothing funnier than a bad novel by a good writer”.
