Advancing Women EntrepreneursAs a proud signatory of the Investing in Women Code, Cambridge Enterprise is actively committed to diversifying investment in University spin-outs. However, gender disparity persists in the teams pitching to our investment committee, which is echoed across the UK with only 27% of venture capital deals involving companies with at least one female founder, and a mere 9% feature all-female founder teams. Dr Shima Barakat Director of the Entrepreneurship for Sustainability Programme, Chair of Women's Staff Network and Co-Founder of Impact Women's Network, University of Cambridge An entrepreneur, director and academic, Shima has spent the last 25 years helping companies (from startups to MNEs), founding ventures, leading boards and teaching entrepreneurship. Before her current position, Shima was the Head of Entrepreneurial Learning at the Judge Business School. Pam Garside Chair of Cambridge Angels and Cambridge Enterprise Investment Committee memberPam Garside is a management consultant working in health care systems and digital health in the UK and internationally and an angel investor in early stage health tech companies. She is a Fellow of the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge and a member of the Investment Committee of Cambridge Enterprise. Professor Rachel Oliver Director of the Cambridge Centre for Gallium Nitride and CSO & Co-Founder of, Cambridge spin-out, PorotechProfessor Rachel Oliver is a materials scientist, inventor and spinout founder, and Director of the Cambridge Centre for Gallium Nitride. Her passion for understanding and engineering the small-scale structure of semiconductor materials to enable new technologies has been recognised in 2021 by the award of a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering and her selection as an IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecturer.
