Between 1831 and 1835, Lord Stuart de Rothesay built Highcliffe Castle, a Gothic Revival home, near the site of High Cliff House, his father's Georgian estate. The design, by William Donthorne, a founder member of RIBA, incorporated large quantities of carved Medieval stonework salvaged from the Norman Benedictine Abbey of St Peter at Jumièges in northwest France and the Grande Maison des Andelys.

It has benefitted in recent years from two grants from the National Lottery fund. The Castle is now under the ownership of BCP Council.

Free Parking has been arranged for the day in a reserved area of the public car park.  Our day will begin with coffee and biscuits at 11am in the adjacent Castle Pantry tearooms and will be followed at 11.30am by a talk from one of the Castle staff. We will then be free to look around the Castle at our own pace. There is full disabled access and a lift for those who need it.

We will then adjourn back to the Castle Pantry tearooms where tables will be reserved for a finger buffet lunch.
