3.00 – 3.30 Just a Marmot

Based on Radio’s long-running quiz show Just a Minute, a panel of four members of the Department of Zoology will attempt to speak without hesitation, deviation, or repetition on topics loosely related to animals

Quiz master: Dr Matt Wilkinson, Teaching Associate, Department of Zoology

After studying Zoology at Cambridge, including a PhD (2002) on pterodactyl flight, Matt trained as an actor, and is now a Teaching Associate in the Department of Zoology, science communicator/writer, voice artist and actor. He’s the author of Restless Creatures: The Story of Life in Ten Movements (2016), and can sing the whole of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

3.30 – 4.00 Rainforest Murmurs

A panel of zoologists, recently returned from the final-year field course in Borneo, will share their experiences, answer questions from members of the audience, and involve them in light-hearted quizzes on What made THAT sound? and What on earth is THAT?

Ed Turner is the Deputy Head of Department (Teaching) in the Department of Zoology and the Curator of Insects in the University Museum of Zoology. He read Zoology at Cambridge, where he also made appearances with The Footlights, studied rainforest ecology for his PhD (2005), ran large-scale ecological experiments in Sabah, Malaysia, and currently works on a range of conservation projects in the UK and Southeast Asia.
