Alumni Festival 2019
This event is in the past.
We’re delighted that this year’s Alumni Festival was our most successful yet. Nearly 1,800 alumni and guests attended 100 events taking place across Cambridge, breaking all previous records.
There were a great many highlights, including, on Friday, a sold-out “Come and Sing”, standing ovations for Baroness Hale, Lady Arden and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Eilís Ferran at “Women in Law”, and a scientific journey to “Infinity and Back” led by the Vice-Chancellor. The BBC’s Katie Derham (Magdalene 1988) hosted a panel of formidable musical talent, with John Rutter CBE (Clare 1964), Gerald Finley (King’s 1980) and Sarah Latto (Sidney Sussex 2007) and her choir, Echo, rounding out an amazing evening.
On Saturday, more than 25 leading academics presented on their fascinating research, ranging from artificial intelligence to historical queens, and from our carbon footprint, to the importance of playing and learning. Watch this space as we upload presentations and recordings over the coming days and weeks.
The Festival’s final day saw the weather held out for several garden tours around the city, while Newnham held its popular “Newnham Conversations”.
We have collated some of our favourite photographs in an Alumni Festival album. You might find some familiar faces – even your own!
2020 is the Alumni Festival’s 30th birthday, so please make sure you hold the dates in your diary. Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September promise to be three of the most exciting days of the year.
