Renaissance Course at St Catharine’s College - Tenor Offer

Renaissance Course at St Catharine’s College - Tenor Offer

  • Conductor with his hands up (Edward)

Enjoy Cambridge’s rich choral life with a few more creature comforts and no study pressure!

Why not treat yourself to a trip back to Cambridge for our first specialist course, dedicated to the repertoire of the two Renaissances in English music. Both have brought with them sublime choral music: alongside the work of Thomas Tallis, William Byrd and other 16th century masters, this course will present music by composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries who were inspired by the rediscovery of their musical heritage, such as Parry, Vaughan Williams and Holst.

Singing Compline, Evensong and Vespers by candle-light in beautiful college chapels, we will also visit manuscripts and learn how to read them, and hear from eminent musicologists including Dr Edward Wickham, Sally Dunkley (The Tallis Scholars, The Sixteen), Dr David Skinner, Matthew Alec Gouldstone and Luke Fitzgerald. We’ll discover more of the rejuvenation of English cathedral music which led eventually to the birth of the Early Music movement.

It's a chance to meet up with old friends and make new friends who share your passion for singing.

“This was the best singing week I’ve been to - and I’ve done a few in my time!”

* When the tenor is fully booked onto the course. If places for other voices are sold out, your discount can be applied to a future course booking.
