Dr Ben Marsh

Ben Marsh is a Senior Lecturer in American History at the University of Kent, having previously taught at Brunel (2001-2), Oxford (2002-4), and Stirling (2004-14) universities. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Cambridge (Downing College), where he developed his research interests in the history of colonial and revolutionary America and the American South. His first book, Georgia’s Frontier Women: Female Fortunes in a Southern Colony (2007) won the Malcolm Bell, Jr. and Muriel Barrow Bell Award. His work has featured in journals such as the Journal of Southern History, Agricultural History, and Textile History, and he has lately completed books on Understanding and Teaching the Age of Revolution (2017) and Silk in the Atlantic World (2018). He is regularly involved in public engagement events with museums, schools, and the media, including the Enlightened Princesses exhibition (Yale/Kensington Palace) and Black History Live (Chatham Dockyard).
