Nicknamed the ‘Rainbow Nation’, South Africa offers many worlds within one country. Its culture and history are staggeringly diverse with a plethora of official languages and influences from in and outside the African continent.

The variety of scenery is unrivalled, from rainforests, savannas and dessert to the Great Escarpment, wild coastlines and vibrant cities. Its caves were cradles of humankind; its geology produced immeasurable riches which inspired wars and financed Apartheid. It is hardly surprising that, beyond the pleasures of a safari and beautiful landscapes, the complex identity of the ‘Rainbow Nation’ is still somewhat of a mystery to a foreign visitor.

This unique journey hopes to unravel some of the many historical, cultural and social paradoxes that make up this scintillating and spectacularly beautiful nation. From Johannesburg to Cape Town, via the Highveld bush and Cape Winelands, learn more of this wonderful country, its history, culture, flora, fauna and fascinating ethnography and the country’s fabulous cuisine.
